Whitby Worldwide Weekend
A Gathering of the Clan
2003 2005

2003

Every once in a while someone will come up with a whacky suggestion, but the one made by Anna Hughes back in November 2002 was silly beyond belief.  Anna asked me in an email whether I'd actually met any of the contributors to our website and had I any plans to organise some kind of get-together.  What a crazy notion!  After all, this is the Internet - where you never have to leave your chair - right?

At first I dismissed the idea, yet the more I thought about it, the more it seemed to make sense.  So I ran it past a couple of regular contributors, who then left me in no doubt that it was something we really ought to do.  Thus, Whitby Worldwide Weekend, or WWW3 as it came to be known, began to take shape -- eventually happening on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th September 2003.

Although I was pretty sure the event would be supported by at least some of us, Friday actually saw some 24 people sit down to an excellent dinner at the White Horse & Griffin, while Saturday's guests for the main event at Stakesby Manor numbered an amazing 37 people having a good time!

You can click on this link to read what the Whitby Gazette had to say about it and there's a link to photos from the event at the foot of this page.

2005

We're now planning this year's event which will take place on Friday 30th September and 1st October 2005 at Stakesby Manor.  If you'd like to be there, all you have to do is let me know!

For fairly obvious reasons, I'll also need to know:
    i.  Your name and those in your party
ii.  Which evenings you'll be attending
iii.  The address to which I should post your tickets

As we did in 2003, I'll require a deposit of £10 per person, per evening, which ensures that I don't end up paying for anyone who is unable to make it.  Your deposit for each evening will meet the entire cost of a hot buffet, but excludes drinks.  Of course if you're arriving from overseas, I'd be happy to come to some other arrangement regarding your deposit - simply drop me a line.

Where's The Catch Then?

Well, there isn't one really.  Like this website, the whole thing is a not-for-profit event devised with affordability in mind.  While you will need to make your own arrangements for travel and accomodation, there are some very helpful people at the Whitby Tourist Information office who would be delighted to help you in this regard, so why not give them a call?  I very much look forward to seeing you there!
