WILFRID HOGARTH
35 Years service in the GPO

Wilfrid Hogarth - 35 years in the GPO.

My grandfather's retirement certificate, presented to him in June 1958, on leaving his job as Supervisor of the town's telephone exchange at Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

It is signed by Ernest Marples, who went on to become the Conservative government's Minister of Transport.  Marples (who co-owned a motorway construction company) will be remembered for overseeing the decimation of the railways system in the UK, circa 1963.
