Comments: My great grandfather was Richard Woof Hogarth born in Whitehaven, Cumbria, in 1855, married 1876 to Mary Johnston in Whitehaven and migrated to Australia. Richard's father was William Hogarth born about 1816.

The middle name 'Woof' was Richard's mother's maiden family name, i.e. Mary Woof.

I am searching for information prior to William Hogarth / Mary Woof

Comments: I'm interested in any contact with descendants of William Luther Law and Sarah Ida Hogarth of Ontario, Canada. While researching LAWs, among whom is my wife, I discovered the Hogarth link. The Beecroft tree confirms my limited genealogical knowledge of the family (names and dates) but I should love to know more. My LAW research goes back to the 1500s (50000+ 'cousins' across the English-speaking world) and I'm always interested in adding to my knowledge of the family.
Regards
Frank

Comments: Hi everyone,

I've written on here before. I am not a Hogarth by name, but am a direct descendant of Agnes (Hogarth) Claflin.

I do not know much about my great-great-grandmother's side of the family, but I do know that she was born in Blackpool, England and came to the US when she was approximately 13 years old. Her father died when she was young, and she herself died in 1957 in Massachusetts. She largely raised my grandmother, Phyllis (Claflin) Aldrich. My great-great-grandmother was considered tall for a woman in her day and age. She had several siblings, and many of their descendants still live in Massachusetts and New England.

My great-great-grandmother married a Wilfred Taft Claflin sometime early in the 1900s. They had three children, Russell, Emily and Isabel. I am descended from Russell. Russell had six children, four of whom are still living. Isabel's children have all passed on, and Emily's children are still alive and well. My grandmother is Rusell's eldest daughter. Her older brother and older cousin have passed on, and she is therefore the eldest living cousin in the group of Russell's, Emily's and Isabel's children.

While I have some information on Agnes, I do not have any on her ancestors or her siblings. I'm so glad to have found this site again, and look forward to hearing from you!

Comments: My grandfather, John Hogarth, came to Canada around 1904 and settled in Wellington County in Ontario. He was born approximately 1884, near Carlisle, England. We only know of one sibling, Mary, who came to Canada, visited once with him and moved on to western Canada. He lost contact with her. His parents, Joseph Hogarth and the former Mary Hawes, worked at the estate called Eskrigg near Carlisle. We have one photo that he brought with him which shows a cottage Wreay, near Carlisle. He was a man of few words and records, so we are searching now about our past. Grandpa died in 1953 after a long marriage to Sarah Robson - a Canadian. They had three children. Sadly, he never kept up with his mother either, and his father died in an accident before he came to Canada. I would appreciate any help in finding more information.

Comments: Son of the Thomas William Hogarth born in Kelso in 1901, currently in England looking at my mother's side of the family.

Part of the family tree can be ascertained from my cousin Patrick James Hogarth's entry in the guestbook.

There is further work to be done after finding a gravestone in the Kelso cemetary that no one seems to know about despite its size!

(unless I missed someone else's entry) :)

Comments: Hi,

I am the daughter of Joseph Leslie O'Connor who wrote Hearts of Oak and while browsing through it I came across your page. Very impressive. Perhaps I should try and do something with the O'Connor tree, e.g. put it on the web.
Good luck with your research.

Regards,

Elizabeth Bailey (née O'Connor)

Comments: My maiden name was Hogarth. My grandfather's surname was Moore, but he changed his name firstly to Moore Hogarth and then Hogarth and all his children adopted the name Hogarth. He did this as after research he found a link to William Hogarth. I have just embarked on the mission to find the link! I was always told as a child that William Hogarth was a great great great Uncle.

Help, someone!

Comments: Hi,

My grandfather Frederick William HOGGARD - so he's a variant!! - born in June 1898 in Clifton, York, to Henry HOGGARD and Sarah Annie THEAKSTON and immigrated to NZ in 1921. He married my grandmother, Amelia Jessie DIMOND and had one child, my father. Interested in finding descendants of his siblings. Unfortunately, he died in 1929 and I often wonder if his family knew what had happened to him. On the 1911 census the family were living at 9 Pickering Terrace and Henry was a blacksmith a North Riding Asylum. Frederick may have been an only son. On this census, he had two sisters Muriel Lily and Elsie. Thank you.
