Wanted to just breeze through and have a peak at what's going on. Hope this note finds everyone in good spirits and health.

Comments: This is a very nice site for the Hoggarths. I knew we had a Hoggarth in our tree and when I saw your site decided to look to see if there were Eskdale's mentioned and there were--Ann Eskdale & Joseph Hoggarth. Possibly a second Eskdale as there is reference to Joseph Hoggarth and Elizabeth Eskdale as well.

Comments: My father was Robert Robison Hogarth, born in Milngavie, now a suburb of Glasgow in Scotland. He had two brothers, Ronald and Ewart. I know that Ronald married and had no children. Ewart married, lived in Kilmacolm in Scotland and had two children - Irene and .... Sorry, I have lost touch with the cousins. I have two brothers, Thomas Anthony and Robin Miles Hogarth. Thomas married and had three children and then adopted another two and now lives in Cornwall. Robin married and had three children and now lives in Barcelona. I also married and have three children.
I do also have a book with details of the life of my grandfather in Glasgow as he was a minister in the Presbyterian Church and he and his wife died in the influenza epidemic after the First World War.
My internet is not working at present but I will make contact later.

Comments: I'm in the process of buying a property in Berwick, 39 Church Street. I've looked at the 1881 census and have noted that a James Johnson from Liverpool lived there with his family. Looking at your website I see a Johnson aged 89 died in Church street. I wonder if this is a descendant?

Another strange thing is that here in Winlaton, Gateshead, we have a social club called "The Hogarth!" Any connection?

Comments: I found your site when I typed Hogarth into Google and I wondered if anyone could help me find some missing Hogarth dates from my family tree.

Appelina Wight (my 1st cousin 3 x removed) 1874 - 1952 married James Hogarth in 1874 in Edinburgh. Appelina had 3 illegitimate children prior to this marriage. Joan Wight b.1895 Euphemia Richardson Wight b.1904 and John Middlemas Hardy Wight (who later changed his name to John Wight Hogarth) b.1905. He married Agnes Swanstone Crosbie in 1928 and they had a son John Knox Hogarth in 1930. He married Janet Gotterson Jeffrey in 1959 and they had a son John b.1960 and a daughter Jane Margaret b.1962.

Appelina and James Hogarth had a son after they married. George Knox Hogarth b.1909 and he married Agnes Taylor Rorrison in 1935.

I cannot find any record of James Hogarth's birth or death but he would have been born c.1874 and died prior to 1952 because Appelina was a widow when she died in Hawick in 1952 at the age of 77. Almost all of them seem to have worked in the woollen mills or hosiery industry in the Hawick area of the Borders.

Can anyone help me? Look forward to any replies.

Congrats on a super site!

Comments: I have a double interest in the Hogarths. My great - great - great - grandfather Thomas Welford (1758-1840) married Mary Hogarth (born Newcastle 1762) at Berwick in 1781. Also, my work as an indexer of material on Charles Dickens has revealed that his wife Catherine was related to the Hogarths of Berwick who were lost in the Royal Charter in 1859. I would like to know if anyone has 'my' Mary Hogarth in their family tree, and can link her to the 'Dickens' Hogarths.
Thanks

Comments: Once upon a time while working as a Graphic Designer, I stumbled upon and rescued 'Creative pencil drawing' by Paul. It disappeared into my bookcase for years. Then one day, after I had left Graphics it fell into my lap while looking for something. At that time I had lost confidence in my artistic skill and no longer drew. The power, excitement and enthusiasm of his line entranced me and I found myself looking around with a new wonder and fresh eye. I am once more beginning my journey.

Thank you Paul Hogarth for firing up my self-belief and putting me back on the path!

Comments: I am researching my family tree and came across this site via the Corner name. I am descended from William Corner and Sarah Jane Heslop who were married at Sutton On the Forest in 1893. William Corner was probably born in 1869 in North Yorkshire. The census/BDM indicates Melsonby as a possible place of birth. William and Sarah moved to Barnsley area by 1901 and were living in Tankersley. They had three children by the names of William, George and Herbert. My Grandfather was their youngest child, Harold Corner, born in 1904. My brothers and I have no contact with my Grandfather's sibling's family and we never have. If we could trace our family back pre-1869 it would also help.

Good web site

Best wishes

Comments: I'm very thrilled to have stumbled onto your website while I was doing a search for Bampton, Westmorland, England. That is the ancestral home for many generations of my Kirkbride family line, one of which (John), married Agnes Hoggarth on 14 Jun 1845 there in Bampton. Agnes is the oldest of the seven children of Robert Hoggarth and Elizabeth Docker. Robert died in Jul 1852 in Bampton, and Elizabeth lived until 4 Mar 1884. I have a picture of Elizabeth Docker Hoggarth taken in Penrith, England. Robert's parents were Thomas Hoggart and Isabel or Isabella Dennyson (1759-1849), according to my records. Please contact me if you're researching any of these individuals.

Comments: My pronunciation is HOGG-arth, but most seem to say HO-garth - unlike the lady from NZ who had the opposite experience. My understanding of the origin of the name is that it is Viking, hence its predominance in areas such as North and West Riding of Yorkshire, the Lake District and Orkney/ N.Scotland. A Hog is an immature ram and Garth means an enclosure. Our ancestors were probably sheep farmers (a common job in the above areas). All the best to the different variants of the name. My lot come from the western Yorkshire Dales.

Comments: Dear fellow Hogarths around the World. Happy New Year to you and yours.

I am taking part in the London Marathon this year - my first marathon at the grand old age of 49!
I am running, first and foremost, to show that I can do it (he says confidently) but also to promote a worthy cause. If you would like to find out a bit more about it and see me in glorious technicolour, just visit my website at www.justgiving.com/malcolmhogarth.

I hope to raise as much as I can and, with your help, hope to exceed expectations.

I keep visiting the website for updates and running (pun intended) totals.

Kindest regards,

Malcolm Hogarth

I'm here because... I'm researching my Family Tree.
Wanna get the
Hogarth Gazette?
No thanks.
Comments: Thought I'd sign the guest book as I found your photos of Horden Hall farm really interesting :-)

Made all the more so by your mention of my 2xGt Grandfather James Carruthers, who used to work there in the 1880's.

Would be very interested in anything else you know about him as I know nowt (at this point).

Excellent site, even though I'm not researching Hogarths - one of the nicer ones my googling has taken me to :-)

Regards

Wanna get the

Comments: Looking for ROEs of Egton, my maternal line. Some snippets of info found or confirmed from your parish transcripts found very interesting. Congratulations on an excellent site. I'll be back.
