Comments: My Mother was a HOGGARTH. She was descended from THOMAS Hoggarth who was born in Easington parish Yorkshire (1764). He married Mary Dunn from Richmond, Yorks. They moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, where several children were born. Some stayed in Newcastle but the rest mainly spanned out into North Shields and South Shields. I would be grateful if anyone knows of any siblings for Thomas or has any proof that his parents were Richard Hoggarth and Mary Green. Congratulations on the website!

Comments: My grandfather was William Thomas Hogarth who was born in Suffolk, he was one of five brothers. After the death of his parents the brothers were sent to various locations in the UK. However one brother was sent to Canada, I met him once when he came to England. His name was Percy. Comments: I was born in Liverpool 1960. My father, Geoffrey, was from Yorkshire. My mother Esther (Betty) a Liverpool lass. We lived in the Anfield area. My parents owned the Iron Door nightclub In the 60s. Various artists peformed there, including the Beatles. My parents divorced. Father remarried and had 3 more little Hogarths (all now grown up). Comments: I sailed with "Hungry" Hogarths while their fleet was managed under Scottish Ship Management Ltd (1968 - 1983). SSM has a vibrant website on the go http://www.scottishshipmanagement.com and there is a warming debate on why Hugh Hogarth had permission to fly the Scottish saltire on his ships' foremasts. Some say he turned down a knighthood (as recompense for his losses during WW2) in favour of being permitted to fly the St. Andrews cross. Can anybody shed light on this? Entries on the SSM website message board (under "St. Andrew's Cross") would be appreciated.

Just found this site whilst I was browsing. My maiden name is Hogarth. Born 4.5.60 in Whitby, North Yorkshire, UK.
Comments on the origins of the Hogarth name, I was interested by the dry stone walling comment. My Dad was a farmer for years and an expert dry stone waller. Our farm was on the North Yorkshire Moors. I found this theory very appropriate. I am the youngest of six kids and I moved to NZ last year.
I just couldn't read the site and not put my name to it!!

Comments: Actually, I signed in many moons ago. Tried to use the Noticeboard just now, but technology, alas the wiring! We all seem to claim direct lineage with good old Bill, (William Hogarth) and wish to research him. I wonder how many children he fathered? Anyways, I suggest reading his book 'The Analysis of Beauty'. For those who might be interested in Paul Hogarth, famous British artist who left us in 2001, you might wish to read his autobiography 'Drawing On Life'. As for me, there are only a few articles out there...some radio and television interviews. You do not know me yet, but there are also drawings and paintings in private and public collections. I understand there is a creative bent regarding the genes. Right there!
