Comments: I'm not even a Hogarth, but I stumbled onto the article about Edith and Wilfrid Hogarth. Up until I was 16 I lived next door to Mrs Hogarth. We used to call her Nurse Hogarth. She was going to deliver my brother in June 1957, but he was slightly early and Nurse Hogarth was away on holiday that week. She was a wonderful neighbour and looked after us when my dad was in hospital and mam was visiting him. Over the road lived her daughter Pauline and grandsons Peter and Paul Johnson. Good memories and lovely to see pictures of her.

Comments: My name is Ian Jones. I live in Sydney Australia. My mother is Marie Ruth (nee Hogarth) Jones. From my records we can be traced back to George Alexander Hogarth, a medical doctor married to a Miss Spence. They lived in England. They had a son Henry Clement Hogarth born England 1820 and died Sydney 1880. Henry married Eliza Clara Witts in 12849 in Queanbeyan, NSW. Henry & Eliza had 13 children. The first child was my great grandfather Henry (1855 to 1925). He married Emily Ross in 1885 in Armidale, NSW. They had 5 children including my grandfather Harrie Lloyd Hogarth (1894-1951). We supposedly have link to the artist William Hogarth and possibly Dickens wife. I can supply further details if required. Please advise if you can assist.

Comments: My father was William Hoggarth, born in Kendal, Westmorland, in 1907. His father was Percy Hoggarth who was one of 13 children of Edward Hoggarth and Emma Swidenbank. He was born in 1881 at Davy Bank farm Firbank, which is about half-way between Kendal and Sedbergh. The names of the children were John (Jack) Charles, Jane, Myles, Albert, Margaret Florence, Alice, Mary, Elizabeth, Ada Percy and Arthur (who was the father of Paul Hogarth, artist 1917-2001). Paul took a 'g' out of his surname, but he was christened Paul Arthur Hoggarth. I think Ada went to Canada so there are descendents there that I do not know. I have information back as far as 1754 which is proven, but I have found more, earlier than this.

Comments: My Father's cousin Ray Bibby is actually doing the research as they both share the same Grandmother Margaret (nee Johnson, born in Shetland). She married Edward Hoggarth who was a tobacconist in North Shields in 1872. There were several other branches of the Hoggarth family in North Shields. Ray has traced back to Thomas Hoggarth who married Mary Dunn from Richmond N Yorks at Easington, Yorks in approx 1797. Thomas had been a soldier before becoming a shoemaker. If there is anyone 'out there' who feels they may be connected we would be very interested to hear from you. My Father was Gordon Beverley.

Comments: I have a namesake cousin, John Craig who worked for Hogarths about 1940 to 1975 or so I think. He is alive and in Bishop Auckland. Just curious when Hogarth's went out of Business or were bought out. Is there any link to the McBrides in the family history? John got on as he and I had a great Granny called Mary McBride.
