Comments: I'm researching my family tree. My great grandmother was Jane Hoggart / Hoggarth, born Egton 1850. She married Elijah Bell, from Emneth, Norfolk. Jane was the daughter of Luke Hoggarth (twin brother of Francis), born 1795. Their father was Francis, born 1762 and his father was John Hoggarth who married Mary Shaw at Egton in 1755. I got this information, from the Hearts of Oak website (which I found by accident!), page 5 of the Hoggart/Hoggarth family pages. I was looking for my family through the Bell name, which I will continue to do, but I am thrilled to be descended from the Hoggarths - one of the many recusant families on the North Yorks Moors. My part of the family is still Catholic to this day. I have a photograph of Jane Hoggarth (and Elijah, her husband) which was taken around 1900 I think. I'd love to receive the Hoggart / Hoggarth Gazette and find out about my relatives!

Comments: I got this 'story' from my father back in Sweden, where I grew up.
My grandfather Gustaf Albert Hogarth 'fled' from the English Royal Navy when he was a boy. He was born in Scotland 17th of April 1894. He then settled in Sweden and married. He had 3 sons (including my father) and 2 daughters. What I'm wondering is, if anyone knows of any connection or background to my grandfather?

Comments: Hello Hogarth families. As my grandparents were the loves of my life and are both now deceased, I've found myself in need of a Hogarthconnection. Their names were Clifford and Jessy Hogarth. Being unsure of my grandfather's birth date and my Nanna's nee name, it's difficult to find anything. Though here is what I have; Clifford born approx 1909 dec 1988, Jessy 25/nov/? dec approx May 1994. Two children of this union, Roy who married Kate they had2 children David-Roy who lived in Ayre Qld, and Lesley-Anne-(dec;mva aprox 1983). Jean Hogarth, married Brian Taylor, son of Edwin & Else, 2 children camefrom that union, Graham Barry DoB 7/03/61 & yours truly Angela Vicki. After saying this much as an introduction to your family site, I can assure you the antics ofmy grandparents were adventurous, interesting, humerous, educational & occasionally dangerous. Comments: As you can see I'm not a Hogarth, but my great great grandmother was. Her name was Margaret and she came from Cumbria.

She married William Stephenson (my mother's maiden name) and had a number of children, one of whom was Thomas Hogarth Stephenson - none of theother children kept Hogarth as part of the name.

The trouble is that Thomas left his wife after siring my grandfather and his brother and apart from some rumours about his untimely and unfortunate demisein, sorry Rod, Bournemouth, we haven't a clue about what happened to him.

My mother, now knocking on 80 but still fully compos mentis, would dearly like to know.

Comments: I was shocked to see someone named Brian John Hogarth from New Zealand who has a father named Elwood and grandfather named Winfield.

Here's the weird part: My father's name is Elwood and my grandfather's name is Winfield. Last time I checked none of my six brothers is Brian. There's Elwood Jr. (we call him Butch), Ralph, Jack, James, Michael and Dennis and of course Linda my sister. And our family has lived in Pennsylvania for at least 60 years. But my father was born in New Jersey. I'm not sure of anything else I have been researching my mother's side of the family Elias S.Beck. But maybe I'd better look closer at this Hogarth family.

Comments: Hogarth was my mother's maiden name and is my middle name.&bvsp; My grandfather, Robert Hogarth, was born in 1901 in the North-east of England. He lived with his parents in Earsdon as a boy, but then moved south of the river Tyne to County Durham.

He had quite few brothers and sisters (i'll find out names if you want). I believe one part of the family emigrated to America. The ones that stayed were are coal miners, working in the pits (coal mines) of County Durham.

I've started with my Grandfather, John Hoggarth (known as Jack),(born 1885) and his siblings William (known as Bill), Florence (known as Florry) and Pleasance, (known as Matilda). Their parents were William Hoggarth born 1853, Whitby, and Pleasant Jackson, born 1849, Lincolnshire. All six of them appear in Bryan's 1891 census listings, living in Whitby. And I think William and Pleasant are in the 1881 listings as well.

Comments: Hi. My name is Jim Hogarth. I live in Courtenay, British Columbia. I was born on 15 Nov 1945 in Onanole, Manitoba, Canada. My Father's name was Frank Edward Hogarth, b. 19 Jan 1896 in Manitoba, Canada and his Grandfather was William Hogarth who died at the age of 74 on 14 Feb 1920. Grandmother was Martha Ann Hogarth. I believe they came from England. I know very little about my father's history other then he was an illegitimate child born to their daughter Ann Hogarth. Comments: My Family comes from Beverley, Nr. Hull. My Grandfather farmed land between the River Hull and a Dyke known as Swinemoor. Nearby is a Manor house called Hoggarth House on current Ordnance surveys, but Hoggard House on earlier ones.

There alway seemed to be more Hoggards in the Hull telephone directory than anywhere else in the country when I was a lad. I am now 69.

Comments: I descend from Robert Hogarth married to Mary Cranston in 1748. Their son James Hogarth was born in 1760 at Sprouston. He married Isobel/Isabella Fox who was born 1762 at Morebattle. Their son George was born 1800 at Morebattle. He married Margaret Hood June 28, 1824 in Eckford, Scotland. George was kicked in the head by a horse & died June 15, 1860 in Littonlees Crailing. He is buried in Morebattle churchyard. Their son Robert emigrated to Canada after the death of his father. He brought with him most of the family & his mother. Robert is my Great-great grandfather. He married Mary Emily Blackett of Sidney, Cape Britan, Nova Scotia. I am interested in sharing any information and history with other folks of this line.

Comments: I'm researching my family tree. My great grandmother was Jane Hoggart / Hoggarth, born Egton 1850. She married Elijah Bell, from Emneth, Norfolk. Jane was the daughter of Luke Hoggarth (twin brother of Francis), born 1795. Their father was Francis, born 1762 and his father was John Hoggarth who married Mary Shaw at Egton in 1755. I got this information, from the Hearts of Oak website (which I found by accident!), page 5 of the Hoggart/Hoggarth family pages. I was looking for my family through the Bell name, which I will continue to do, but I am thrilled to be descended from the Hoggarths - one of the many recusant families on the North Yorks Moors. My part of the family is still Catholic to this day. I have a photograph of Jane Hoggarth (and Elijah, her husband) which was taken around 1900 I think. Their names were Clifford and Jessy Hogarth. Being unsure of my grandfather's birth date and my Nanna's nee name, it's difficult to find anything. Though here is what I have; Clifford born approx 1909 dec 1988, Jessy 25/nov/? dec approx May 1994. Comments: As you can see I'm not a Hogarth, but my great great grandmother was. Her name was Margaret and she came from Cumbria. She married William Stephenson (my mother's maiden name) and had a number of children, one of whom was Thomas Hogarth Stephenson - none of theother children kept Hogarth as part of the name. The trouble is that Thomas left his wife after siring my grandfather and his brother and apart from some rumours about his untimely and unfortunate demisein, sorry Rod, Bournemouth, we haven't a clue about what happened to him.
