I would like to find our ancestors originating from England.  My Grandparents left England from North England Penrith area in the early 1900's for New Zealand and settled in Waiuku.
I would like to try and do my family tree.  If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

My gggggrandfather's sister was Elizabeth Docker, b.15-May-1796 in Bampton, Westmoreland, England.  Elizabeth married a Robert Hogarth and they had children.  I would love to connect with this families descendants.

Elizabeth's brother was Thomas Docker, christened in 1804.  His son, William, came to America in 1872 and was lost from the rest of the family after the move.

Thomas Docker married Elizabeth Smith of King's Meaburn.  Is anyone related to any of these people?  If so, please e-mail me.

I am the son of John (Jack) and June Hogarth who were married in Mount Morgan, Australia.  Jack's father was also known as Jack Hogarth.  He married Alecia Patrica Croft in Mount Morgan.  She had children from a previous marriage.  They then had two sons, Jack (Oldest) and Buddy (not sure of real name).  If any one can help me track down information on my grandfather I would appreciate the help.

I was always told I was descended from William Hogarth, the painter.  My Dad was furious when I found out my William Hogarth was indeed a painter, but he painted houses in Ohio in the mid 1800s.  I am stuck though.  He was born circa 1824 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I know nothing else of his family of origin.  He married Ellen Washburn, date & location unknown.  Does anyone know anything of my William?
I think this is a terrific site.  Thank you for allowing searching cousins to visit!

I am doing research on the Isaac Levy family of Jamaica.  In particular I am following a branch of the tree that leads to a Catherine Hogarth.  This Hogarth is believed to be of British birth and was married to a James Edward Muir of Falmouth, Jamaica.  The daughter of James, Maude, married Emamuel Bolivar Levy in 1898.  The family lived in a number of locations in Jamaica, but the family house (Muir) circa 1915 was at 26 East Race Course in Kingston and was called "Clythnews".

There is some suggestion that Catherine Hogarth was related to William Hogarth, but this remains to be seen.

Currently there are nine Hogarths registered in the telephone book on Jamaica.  Therefore not a popular name.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may be part of this Jamaican connection.

My Grandfather, Samuel Hogarth (b.1902), immigrated to New Zealand with his wife Mary (née Gray).  They had a hoard of kids (Sam, Jack, Anne, Mavis, Margret, Betty, Fred and my mum - Jean) and I'm just trying to piece the family tree together.

I was born in NZ but moved to the UK in 1990.

I love this site.  Wish I were blessed with time and energy to do more research.  Maybe one day.  I print out each Gazette so I have references and names.  I did not know Charles Dickens was possibly in my ancestry.  We think, but don't know that William Hogarth was the origin of our Hogarths here in the USA.  Can only prove James L Hogarth,my great-great grandfather, was the first one in Florida; then his son Robert See Hogarth, my great grandfather; then his son Jesse Edward Hogarth, my grandfather; then his son Robert Velt Hogarth, my dad (named Robert for his grandfather and Velt for Theodore Roosevelt); then me, Jacqueline Louise Hogarth.
Jesse Edward had two sons, Ivan and Robert. Ivan had one daughter. Robert had three daughters.  The line daughtered out.  Robert See had a son, George - who had two daughters. There was one other son with a son named Terry, but they are deceased.  All of these were in Florida. Will this help anyone? I hope so. I was interested in your notes re: William Hogarth, the artist in your last publication.  Thanks for a job well done.  Your humor is a delight.  Jackie

Hello everyone!

I am looking for an Angela Hoggart (maiden name).  She went to school in Tottenham and left in 1963.  That's about as much as I can tell you, apart from I think she had a sister called Sandra.  I really need to find her.  She would be about 54 now.  If anyone here is related to her, or knows her, please email me.

I want to find her before xmas!!

(Great site by the way! Shame I am a Wilkins!!)

Best regards to you all,

Angie

Greetings:-
My first connection with the name "Hogarth" was through the IGI, when I found the marriage of Elizabeth Hogarth to John Harriman in "Orton" Westmorland, on the 10th June 1731.
I have the marriage certificate of their g-g-granddaughter who married in Appleby in 1838.
I have only just found this web site, I think it's great.
If you think any of my family history would be of use, please let me know.
regards, Les

This is sooo exciting!  I just got the internet and find this wonderful information, struggling with HOGARTH family research.  I am originally from Bolton, Lancashire and have lived in the US for 35 years.  Thought I was in the world (almost) alone, not many Hogarths to speak of - not like Smith or Jones.  Didn't even know that I had a tartan.  My 14 year old son is into the Armstrong tartan, heraldry, etc.  I guess I shall have to get a kilt too!!!!!!  Would love to hear from any fellow bloodline.

Sincerely, Norma

My Great-Grandmother's name was Holly Hogarth.  She had a brother named Robert and two sisters, named Corinne and Mae.  Their parent's names were Jesse and Alice Hogarth.  This vein of the family has been in Florida since the 18th century, if I'm not mistaken.  My father is the expert on family history, but I'm becoming more and more interested.  It's nice to see this site.  Thank you!

I signed in sometime last year.  Actually, I am here presently because of the following situation.  I have an uncle, Thomas Hogarth, who migrated to England in the 1950s, and lived there for some 30-odd years.  He returned to Jamaica in the 1990s and died while I was away in China.

Would anyone happen to know whether he had a wife or children while in England?  I would greatly appreciate information in this regard.

While browsing these pages I found an article about Close House and there was a picture of houses my great grandfather James Moore built.
He was no relation to Hogarths and isn't there for that reason.
The houses at Coronation were named after him, his wife and his three children.
Frances Terrace, in Bishop Auckland, was named after his daughter in law.
He lived in Gurney Villas, as did my other ggf.  He retired early from the colliery and had to earn a living by other means.  He was a seedsman.  In 1905 he bought a car that cost more than two houses!  He then started a building firm for his sons, in co-operation with the colliery.
Eldon Colliery carried on until 1962(?).  It was The South Durham (Eldon) Colliery that closed in 1930.

Rod's Note:  I believe that the article to which Margaret refers is actually on Bryan Hoggarth's website, rather than this one.

My Great great grandmother's death certificate was signed by a Jane Eliza Hoggarth, presumably her daughter (formerly Jane Eliza Braithwaite) who must have married a Hoggarth in the Bootle/Corney area of Cumberland, around 1900-1910.  Do you by any chance know of any infomation on Jane Braithwaite/Hoggarth or her family and descendants?

I am hoping that someone may be able to help me find a William Hoggard, or Hoggart, who appears to be the father of my ggrandfather William Postill.

William P was born on 2-Apr-1848 at Old Malton Gate.  His mother was Jane Postill.  No father's name was recorded on the birth certificate.

William married, (1) Emma Miller on 29-Sep-1872 at the Parish Church of St Leonard, Malton and on his marriage certificate he gives his father as William Hoggart, Groom: (2) Mary Hannah Bean on 10 April 1881, same place, father given as William Hoggard, Coachman.

(Jane Postill eventually married a Henry Thompson.)

Any clues to the possible identity of William Hoggard would be appreciated.

Regards, Don Armstrong

I would like to know about my Grandfather, John Hogarth, who was born in the late 1890's and died in the late 1950's.  Married twice, he worked in the horse industry in Berkshire / West Sussex / Surrey.
He worked and lived at the Gatwick Hall Estate, in Sussex, in the war years.  He had four children: 3 boys; and one girl by his second marriage to his housekeeper -- Lily HART.
He moved to Keighley, and then Haworth in West Yorkshire, in the 1950's.  The boys names are: Ivor; Ben; not sure of the third; and the girl's name is Jennifer.  Hope someone has some information.  Thank you.

I am married to Derek Hoggarth from Barrowford, Nelson, Lancashire.  I have just started trying to trace my husbands family tree.  Derek's grandfather came from the Workington area and was called Richard.  He had a sister called Ethel who died aged 21.  Richard's father was Charlie Hoggarth who married Mary Jane Holiday who was from the Maryport area. Charlie's sister Marion was a spinster and headmistress of St Bees Girls School.
Charlie also had at least 3 brothers, Jack who went to Boston, America, Tom went to Blackburn in Lancashire and Harry - whereabouts unknown.  I would love to hear from anyone who thinks there may be a connection.

Hi my nane is Michelle and yes, I am a proud Hogarth.  I am 30 years old and live in New Zealand with my husband Stewart and our five children.  My great grandfather was Thomas Hogarth and he and his wife Elisebeth migrated to New Zealand with my Grandfather, Ronald Hogarth, in the 1920's.
My Grandfather was born in Keswick in 1921 or 22.
I would love to talk to other Hogarths and get to know more about my family around the world, so feel free to contact me at any time.
Thankyou
Michelle Lee (née Hogarth)

I first contacted the site some time ago and thought it time to have another go.  I am Malcolm Hogarth from Suffolk, one of a nunber of offspring of Neville William John Hogarth Born in Plymouth in June 1930 to William (Bill) and Gladys.

My Siblings are: Ian, David (My Twin), Kevin and Katy.

We are spread around the country (and further) including Cornwall, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Germany.

The recent communication about Lancastrian Hogarths aroused my interest as I believe my Paternal Grandparents retired there. (Since Deceased.)

I believe William Hogarth's kin came from East London and that he was in the Royal Navy and lived in Plymouth and later Manchester.

I have got a bit of a Family Tree and if anyone is interested please get in touch.

My first visit to the site.  I have already bookmarked it, just come online.  I come from a long line of Hogarths in the Newcastle/North East area and do have the family Bible which goes back three generations of my line of the family.  I hope to provide you with further updates in the near future.  Regards, Ivan.

I didnt realize there were so many Hogarths out there!  I used to be called Hogey all the time when I was a kid and I thought it was an uncommon nickname.  My Grandfather, Robert E Hogarth, was a veteran of WWII and was interviewed for an A and E cable biography.  Does anyone out there think they are related to the Hogarths that live in Southern California?  My father is Rob Hogarth, my brother is Tim and I have an Aunt named Terry and an Uncle named Ron.
