Comments: I'm trying to discover which "Hogarth" the beautiful "Hogarth Falls" in Strahan, Tasmania, Australia, was named after for an interpretive signage project. The falls were being referred to as Hogarth Falls around late 1800s - early 1900s. There were several Hogarth's that left England for Australia from the 1850s onwards, however we have not yet established a link with any particular Hogarth. My ancestors go all the way back to Peter Hogard b. abt. 1621 England, d. abt. 1680 Virginia (America), I believe to be from around Essex County England. Comments: Happy New Year, Happy New Millennium from the land of Oz. I am seeking information re John Hoggarth born at Lambrigg Park near Firbank, Westmoreland (now Cumbria) on 20th April, 1793. He was married at Colne to Alice Bairstow by whom he had six children - four sons and two daughters. John died at Gargrave at the age of 94 years. One daughter, named Ann, married Mr. R O Mitchell of Gargrave. One of John's grandsons was called Walter Hogarth. One of John's sons was Daniel, born on 25th April, 1842, at High Bentham, lived for a time at Bradford and moved to NSW, Australia around 1879. He died on 3rd February, 1919. He was my grand-father. At some time Hoggarth became Hogarth.
